Golf: Aninakwah wins Fourth Annual Ghana Institution of Engineering tourney

Isaac Aninakwah emerged triumphant at the Fourth Annual Ghana Institution of Engineering (GHIE) Golf Tournament, securing the Division 1 title with a masterful net score of 68 at Celebrity Golf Club last Saturday.

The home club favourite overcame challenging course conditions to claim the championship trophy in a tournament that showcased Ghana's finest engineering talent on the greens.

Champion's reflections on hard-fought win

Aninakwah, who hadn't played competitively in the week leading up to the event, credited his victory to adaptability and course knowledge.

"Sometimes in the midst of the stress organizing and all, luck shines on you," the elated champion shared. "I came in today, managed to excel despite the course challenges, and I'm happy." He described the Celebrity Golf Club layout as one of Ghana's most demanding tests, combining strong winds, undulating terrain and considerable length.

Competitive field delivers memorable performances

The Division 1 competition saw Kwaku Okyere claim runner-up honors with a net 70, while Francis Akwasi Opoku took third place and the lowest gross score distinction with his net 71. All podium finishers received trophies and premium golf equipment packages.

In Division 2, Joshua Kwasi Appah's net 70 earned him top honors, with Godwin Dzorkpey (net 71) and Clement Owusu-Darko (net 73) completing the prize-winning positions. The division's winners took home engraved trophies and golf accessory bundles.

Division 3 produced the tournament's most remarkable score as Francis Oteng-Bawuah dominated with a stunning net 51. Shirish Shirsath and Satyajeet Choudhari tied at net 67, with Shirsath claiming runner-up on countback. The division's champions received custom trophies and complete golf gear sets.

Seniors showcase skill and experience

The concurrent Seniors tournament saw Paul Okoe Ayitiah capture victory with a net score of 71, while Helen Appah's net score of 72 earned her second place and lowest gross score honors. Issah Adam rounded out the senior podium with a net score of 75, with all receiving specially designed senior division trophies.

Aninakwah, who also represents the organisers of the event, The Golf Experts, highlighted the sport's business potential.

"Golf can sell your brand," he noted. "We provide everything from equipment to training - golf is a complete business and lifestyle platform."

The President of the GHIE, Ludwig Annang Hesse mentioned the tournament's dual purpose: "This event promotes both wellness and professional networking. We'll expand outreach to get more engineers enjoying golf's benefits." With 45 competitors across divisions, the fourth edition marked new participation records for the growing annual tradition.
