Lucky Ayisah triumphs at Memory Lane PGA Championship in Kumasi

Achimota-based professional golfer, Lucky Annan Ayisah, showcased remarkable resilience and skill to claim victory at the Memory Lane PGA Championship held at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi. 

Over the course of three intense days, Ayisah finished with a total score of 216, outplaying thirty other competitors to secure the title and a cash prize.

The Memory Lane PGA Championship, which serves as the final qualifier ahead of the main PGA championship in November at the Celebrity Golf Club in Sakumono, attracted top golfers, including Maxwell Owusu, Ezekiel Afisco, Augustine Manasseh, Francis Torgah, and Vincent Coffie. 

These seasoned players delivered impressive performances, especially in the first two days of the competition, despite early showers. The well-manicured greens allowed for some of the finest displays of golf throughout the tournament.

Heading into the final day under pressure from his rivals, Ayisah kept his composure and delivered a solid 74, securing his victory. Tema-based golfer Augustine Manasseh, who performed admirably throughout the tournament with rounds of 73, 75, and 71, finished second, tied with local favourite Maxwell Owusu Bonsu. Kwabena Poku and Francis Torgah rounded off the top five.

After receiving his winner’s cheque from Professor Bernard Kofi Baiden, Operations Manager of the Royal Golf Club, a delighted Ayisah credited his win to his hard work and preparation.

In the senior category, which featured ten players from various clubs, Stephen Klah claimed the top spot with a two-day score of 153, ahead of K. Korsah and Teye Lartey of the Centre of the World Golf Club, who had led after the first day.

The championship also saw success in the women's division, as another Achimota golfer, Jessica Tei, emerged victorious with a score of 169 over two days. Tei outplayed Mercy Werner, Constance Awuni, and Felicity Gyeabour to secure the top prize in the women’s category.

Speaking to the media after the tournament, PGA Tournament Director Eric Henaku praised the golfers for their outstanding performances, despite some challenges on the course, and urged them to continue training hard for the upcoming major competitions. He also expressed gratitude to the Royal Golf Club for their support and hoped for continued collaboration.

Prof. Baiden was equally impressed with the level of play and encouraged the golfers to stay focused and prepare well for future championships across the country.
