The 2026/27 MTN FA Cup will break new ground, with the final scheduled to be played over two legs for the first time in the history of Ghanaian domestic football.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has scheduled the first leg for June 5-7, 2027, with the return fixture set for June 12-13, introducing a new format for the climax of the country’s premier knockout competition.
The historic decision marks a departure from the traditional one-off final and is expected to give both finalists the opportunity to host a leg of the decisive encounter in front of their home supporters.
The change is also aimed at increasing the tournament’s exposure and adding a new dimension to the battle for the coveted trophy, with the two finalists having to navigate separate home and away fixtures to determine the eventual champions.
The road to the historic final will begin with the preliminary round, scheduled for October 23-26, 2026, as clubs across the country prepare to battle for a place in the main competition.
The Round of 64 will follow from November 27-30, before the Round of 32 is played between February 12 and 15, 2027.
The competition will then progress to the quarter-finals, scheduled for March 19-22, with the semi-finals set for April 23-26, ahead of the two-legged final in June.
Nations FC will enter the new campaign as defending champions after defeating Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties in the 2025/26 final, following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
The introduction of the two-legged final represents a significant change to the MTN FA Cup, with the 2026/27 edition poised to deliver a historic conclusion to one of Ghana’s most prestigious domestic competitions.
