PGA Cedrella Open tees off tomorrow

The Cedrella Open Championship will tee off on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the Safari Valley golf course at Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

The four-day championship is the second event on the Road to Obotan Tournament series, which honoured its first tournament, the Mahogany Open in March this year in Samreboi.

Over 70 professional golfers from across the country are expected to participate for the opportunity to win a stake of the  GH₵100,000.00 cash prize.

There will also be an amateur event for regular and senior golfers competing to secure their spots in the Obotan Tournament.

At stake for the winner of the professional event is a  GH17,000 prize while the first and second runner-ups will receive  GH 10,000 and  GH7,000 respectively.

The senior's category winner will get  GH5,000.00 with first and second runner-ups getting  GH  3,500 and GH2,800.00 respectively.

The championship is expected to be a keen contest between former PGA Ghana champions, Vincent Torgah (who won the Mahogany Open), Emos Korblah, Kojo Barnni and Lucky Ayisah.

However, fast-rising talents such as Maxwell Owusu Bondu, Francis Torgah, Kwame Ligbidi and Augustine Manasseh Agbenene would be looking to cause an upset.

Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tournament Director, Akwesi Prempeh

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Tournament Director, Akwesi Prempeh said the Safari Valley golf course was in pristine condition to host the championship.

"The course is excellent and in a beautiful shape. It’s a small course but really shaped well, every Golfer will love playing on the course but it’s very small in size so every golfer needs much experience to play on such a course because it comes with hazards and bankers to trap your play," Mr Prempeh said.

"It does not have the long drive ability but good putting greens to sink your balls".
