The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, has chided officials of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for placing their personal interest above athletes.

Speaking to the media in Accra yesterday, the minister disclosed that officials of the GOC had submitted their names to him for the Rio Olympic Games without knowing which athletes had qualified for the games.

"They (GOC) submitted some names to me and the list of officials going to Rio, and I asked myself 'wait a minute,' do we even know the athletes going to the Games and you are more interested in yourself and brought your names", he stated.

He therefore disregarded the list and asked that the right things to be done and the interest of the athletes to be put first.

According to the Minister, he disliked the attitude put up by the officials who often presented more officials for international competitions.

He noted that such a thing must not be tolerated and athletes must always be more than officials in the squad.

He cautioned the GOC to do the right thing by placing the priority of athletes ahead of theirs.
