The competition, which was initiated in 2014 by Kimathi Kuenyehia, aims at encouraging good reading habits among the young women leaders in Moremi Initiative’s MiLEAD Fellows Programme, a platform for nurturing Africa’s most promising young leaders.

This year’s competition is open to 2023 MiLEAD Fellows, as well as former Fellows within the MiLEAD Network.

25 weeks of reading

A release issued in Accra said: “Participating Fellows will be required to read a book a week for 25 weeks and submit a weekly book report every Sunday for a generous cash prize. The book report should include a summary of the book, lessons learned, how the lessons can help the reader’s life and/or career and a quote from the book that they consider profound or inspiring accompanied by an explanation of its significance.”

It listed some of the previous winners of the competition to include Grace Amponsah from Ghana, Faith Namalwa from Uganda and Dudzai Mureyi from Zimbabwe.

According to Mr Kuenyehia: “Reading is a lifelong habit that I believe every leader must have. Our goal with this competition is to contribute tangibly to building a crop of leaders who are committed to continuous growth and the pursuit of knowledge”.

The Co-Founder of Moremi Initiative, Mawuli Dake, added that: “No leader, even as exceptional as our Fellows, can be so perfect as to not require improvement.

That is why we are excited about the partnership with the Kimathi Kuenyehia Foundation for motivating, instilling and rewarding reading as a habit for the leaders we develop”.
