Bolt emerges as Ghana’s most downloaded travel app

Bolt, the global shared mobility platform, has been ranked as the most downloaded travel and mobility app in Ghana, according to data from digital intelligence company Sensor Tower.

The ride-hailing and food delivery company, which has been operational in Ghana since 2017, currently operates in Accra and Kumasi, offering services such as Bolt Rides and Bolt Food. The ranking places Bolt ahead of competitors Uber, Yango, and inDrive.

Ghana is one of 23 countries where Bolt leads the travel and mobility app market, based on downloads recorded over the past 12 months. Globally, Bolt has over 200 million users across 50 countries, with more than 4.5 million drivers using its platform.

Caroline Wanjihia, Director of Rides for Africa and International Markets, expressed satisfaction with the milestone but said the company had plans to scale further. “We’re pleased that the people of Ghana are enjoying Bolt, but we’ve still got room to grow further and faster. We’re going to keep accelerating, expanding into more cities, launching new services where possible, and enhancing the Bolt app with new features so our customers have the best experience,” she said.

As part of its growth strategy, Bolt recently introduced a “Family Profile” feature in Ghana, which allows users to manage and pay for rides for up to nine other people from a single account. The initiative, aimed at improving convenience, safety, and financial oversight, is part of Bolt’s commitment to offering innovative mobility solutions.

With operations in more than 600 cities worldwide, Bolt says it remains focused on driving the transition from car ownership to shared mobility by providing sustainable and accessible transport options.
