Police warn WASSCE candidates against post-exam violence after six students arrested in Upper East
The Ghana Police Service has warned final-year students sitting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) against engaging in violence, vandalism or any unlawful acts after completing their final paper on Friday, June 19, 2026.
The Service said students who take part in violence, arson, assault, vandalism or any other criminal act would be arrested and prosecuted, adding that such offences could have lasting consequences for their future.
In a statement issued on June Thursday, 18, 2026, the Police said the warning followed recent incidents involving students in the Upper East Region, where six students were arrested over separate acts of violence.
According to the statement, two students of Zebilla Senior High Technical School were arrested in connection with the alleged arson of a teacher's apartment.
It said four students of Bawku Senior High School were also arrested for alleged rioting, assault on members of staff and the destruction of school and private property.
The Police appealed to students to celebrate the end of their examinations peacefully and act within the law.
It also called on parents, guardians and school authorities to work together to promote discipline, respect for the law and peaceful conduct among students.
