Two men have come face-to-face with the law after the police allegedly found 500 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, popularly known as ‘wee’, in their possession at the Arts Centre in Accra.
The accused persons, Torsu Assidam and Kofi Kesse, appeared before the Accra Circuit Court last Tuesday, but the court did not take their pleas.
The court, presided over by Mr Joseph Yennuban Kunsong, remanded them to reappear on October 14, 2026.
Their alleged accomplice, only identified as Amando, is currently at large.

Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Clement Sarpong told the court that the Accra Regional Police Command received a tip-off on August 23, 2026, about a group of young men allegedly selling a substance suspected to be Indian hemp to residents at the Arts Centre.
Acting on the information, a team from the Accra Regional Stopper ‘2’ was dispatched to the area, where Assidam and Kesse were arrested and taken to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
According to the prosecutor, the two men were found with 500 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The exhibits were seized and handed over for further investigation.
Chief Inspector Sarpong said that during an on-the-spot interrogation, the accused persons admitted that the substance belonged to them.
The prosecution told the court that the two men further disclosed that Amando had allegedly given them the substance to sell. However, they were unable to assist the police in locating him.
Chief Inspector Sarpong said the accused persons subsequently admitted to the offence during investigations and were arraigned before the court.
He added that the exhibits had been forwarded to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and a report.
Meanwhile, the prosecution said efforts were ongoing to arrest Amando to assist the police with the investigation.
