The Deputy Minister-Designate for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has reiterated the ministry’s commitment to aggressively pursuing revenue generation while implementing measures to reduce government expenditure.

He explained that without strict financial discipline, the ministry would be unable to achieve its fiscal targets.

Mr Ampem made these remarks during his vetting by the Appointments Committee, in response to questions about how the ministry intends to fund government programmes.

“The President’s decision to reduce the number of ministers by 24 is a clear indication that the government recognises the economic challenges we face. This move sets the tone for all sectors to follow suit,” he stated.

Speaking on the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme, he affirmed his commitment to supporting the Minister of Finance in ensuring adequate funding for education.

“With the outcome of the education forum, if Ghanaians reach a consensus on a particular direction and it becomes government policy, I will fully support its implementation,” he added.

He clarified that his primary concern regarding Free SHS was not the cost implications, but rather its implementation and efficiency.
