Mfantseman Saltpond Development Alliance President resolves defamation dispute wuth Nkusukum Omanhen through ADR

The President of the Mfantseman Saltpond Development Alliance (MSDA), Ernest De-Graft Egyir, and the Omanhen of the Nkusukum Traditional Area, Nana Okesse Essandoh IX, have resolved their differences and peacefully settled a defamation suit through an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

The matter stemmed from statements made during the launch of the Odambea Festival at Kuntu on August 16, 2025, which led Mr. Egyir initiating a defamation suit at the Cape Coast High Court, citing damage to his personal and professional reputation.

According to a joint resolution document dated April 24, 2026, the dispute was referred to ADR, where both parties engaged in dialogue aimed at achieving an amicable settlement in the interest of peace, unity, and mutual respect for traditional authority and institutional reputation.

As part of the resolution, Mr. Egyir formally accepted the retraction of the contested statements and an unqualified apology issued by Nana Okesse Essandoh IX.

He also indicated his commitment to moderate future public commentary and, where necessary, render apologies for any remarks that would have escalated tensions or caused unintended offence.

The MSDA President noted that the agreement reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding the dignity of traditional leadership, protecting individual reputations, and strengthening unity within the Nkusukum Traditional Area and beyond.

He further confirmed his readiness to participate in a joint public communication process, including the public reading of the retraction and apology as required under the settlement terms.

The resolution brings closure to the matter, subject to endorsement by the High Court, and is expected to reinforce peaceful coexistence and mutual respect between the parties.
