The Diamond Cement Group has donated 5,000 bags of cement to aid in the construction of the Ga East Municipal Hospital.

The Chairman of the Diamond Group, Mr Mukesh M. Patel said the charitable gesture was in fulfilment of a pledge to donate 250 tonnes of cement to aid in the hospital's construction.

A delegation from the Diamond Cement Group including the Chairman, Mr Patel, the Financial Controller, Mr N. Venkatesh and the General Manager, Mr B.V. K. Raju were present at the construction site of the Ga East Municipal Hospital to hand over the cement bags to the technical committee of the Covid-19 private sector fund.

The delegation was accompanied by Reverend Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, the Executive Secretary of the Cement Manufacturers Association of Ghana (CMAG).

Handing over the bags, Mr Patel said the group saw the need to fulfil its pledge of cement bags considering how critical the country needs to invest in the healthcare infrastructure by building more hospitals.

He observed that the Covid-19 had exposed the deficiencies in Ghana's healthcare systems, urging the private sector to support Government’s pledge to construct hospitals in some 88 districts across the country.

The Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Covid-19 Private Sector Fund, Dr Justice Yamson who received the donation on behalf of the fund expressed gratitude to the Diamond Cement Group for their continuous support and assured to put the donation to good use in ensuring the Ga East Municipal Hospital is completed on time.

He said: “The purpose of the hospital is to give Ghana its first properly built hospital fit for infectious diseases center and as such, any support from corporate Ghana to drive the course is a welcome news."
