Father arrested for allegedly dragging son with quad bike at North Legon
The police have arrested a 60-year-old man for allegedly tying his teenage son to a quad motorbike and dragging him along a tarred road at North Legon in Accra, causing the boy multiple injuries.
The suspect, identified as Eric Mantey, was arrested by the Madina Divisional Police Command following the incident, which occurred near the Adonai Church area on May 3, 2026.
The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest at a press briefing on Thursday, May 7, 2026, addressed by the Head of Public Affairs at the Police Headquarters, Superintendent Juliana Obeng.
According to the police, the victim, a 16-year-old son of the suspect, had gone out to play football with friends against instructions from his father.
Police investigations indicate that the suspect, angered by the boy’s actions, confronted him and allegedly tied him to the quad motorbike before driving off.
The teenager reportedly fell onto the tarred road and was dragged for several minutes before some residents intervened and stopped the suspect.
The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Briefing journalists, Supt. Obeng said the suspect admitted during interrogation that he acted out of anger over the conduct of his son.
“He stated that he acted out of anger over the victim’s behaviour,” she said.
Supt. Obeng advised parents and guardians to adopt lawful and non-violent means of disciplining children and urged the public to report cases of child abuse to the police and other relevant authorities.
