The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) achieved another milestone on Thursday, with the GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) smashing through the 10,000-point barrier for the first time, closing at 10,007.68 after a gain of 248.25 points.

Trading data for the 7,171st session, held on March 12, 2026, revealed sustained investor enthusiasm, with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) climbing an additional 123.31 points to settle at 15,524.99.

Market capitalisation expanded to an unprecedented GH¢287.83 billion, up from Wednesday's GH¢282.91 billion, reflecting the continued wealth creation sweeping through the Accra bourse.

Total volume of shares traded for the session surged to 5,104,565, with aggregate value hitting GH¢34,804,503.13—the highest single-day value this week.

SIC Insurance leads rally

SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) delivered a breathtaking performance, surging by GH¢0.62 to close at GH¢6.99. The insurance heavyweight attracted significant investor interest, with 394,542 shares changing hands and contributing GH¢2,758,092.60 to total market value.

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC (SCB) continued its impressive ascent, adding GH¢3.36 to close at GH¢79.41, while Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) jumped GH¢0.20 to GH¢2.24.

Republic Bank (Ghana) PLC (RBGH) rose by GH¢0.35 to close at GH¢3.93, and Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) gained GH¢0.60 to GH¢11.50.

Clydestone (Ghana) PLC (CLYD) added GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢0.76, while Cocoa Processing Company PLC (CPC) rose by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.09. Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL) gained GH¢0.05 to close at GH¢7.31.

Laggards emerge

Despite the overwhelmingly positive session, several stocks recorded declines. Scancom PLC (MTNGH) shed GH¢0.06 to close at GH¢6.28, despite being the most actively traded counter with 2,459,893 shares changing hands, contributing GH¢15,433,520.50 to total market value.

Fan Milk PLC (FML) declined by GH¢0.21 to GH¢16.14, while Ecobank Ghana PLC (EGH) fell GH¢0.14 to GH¢56.00. Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC (GGBL) dipped GH¢0.10 to GH¢16.40, and Societe Generale Ghana PLC (SOGEGH) shed GH¢0.02 to GH¢11.36.

TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC (TOTAL) edged down GH¢0.01 to GH¢40.14, while Hords PLC (HORDS) on the GAX declined by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.09.

Unchanged stocks

Several stocks recorded no price movement during Thursday's session, including Access Bank (ACCESS), Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), Aluworks (ALW), Asante Gold Corporation (ASG), Atlantic Lithium (ALLGH), Benso Palm Plantation (BOPP), Cal Bank (CAL), Camelot (CMLT), Dannex Ayrton Starwin (DASPHARMA), First Atlantic Bank (FAB), GCB Bank (GCB), Mega African Capital (MAC), PBC, Trust Bank Gambia (TBL), Tullow Oil (TLW), Unilever (UNIL), and NewGold (GLD).

Market summary

The GSE-CI has now gained an astonishing 77.02 per cent since the start of the year, while the financial stocks index has delivered a breathtaking 115.35 per cent return—more than doubling investor capital in just over two months.

Thursday's session marked the continuation of a historic rally that has seen the benchmark index climb relentlessly since late February, with the financial stocks index crossing the psychologically significant 10,000-point threshold for the first time.
