Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra, Madam Baidoo, congratulated women in the country on their support and commitment to the development of Ghana.

“As we celebrate the ‘International World Women’s Day’ today, I wish to congratulate and encourage all our gallant women in the country, on their hard work and support over the years,” she said.

International Women’s Day

The International World Women’s Day is annually held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across countries in the world.

It is also known as the United Nations (UN) day for women’s rights and international peace. The theme for this year’s event is: ‘Planet 5050 by 2030: Step it up for Gender Equality.’

The event reflects on how to accelerate the 2030 agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new sustainable development goals.

It will also focus on the new commitments under the UN women’s Step It Up initiative, and other existing commitments on gender equity and women’s empowerment.

Citing a quote from the former General Secretary of the United Nations (UN), Kofi Annan, to explain her point, the CEO said ‘there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women’.
