Sandra Ankobiah courts support for women with breast cancer
The exercise, dubbed “Pink Power Breast Screening,” was held in collaboration with The Women Institute to create awareness and educate the traders about breast cancer in light of October being designated as Breast Cancer Awareness month.
In 2020, there were 2.3 million women diagnosed with breast cancer and 685, 000 deaths globally. As of the end of 2020, there were 7.8 million women alive who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the past five years, making it the world's most prevalent cancer.
According to Sandra Ankobiah, the devastating effects of breast cancer could not be diminished and needed immediate measures to prevent or lessen its harm.

“Breast cancer is the leading disease in the world and people need to be educated to get screened, know their status and seek early treatment if need be to reduce the harmful effects in future. Seeking early medical treatment and cultivating the habit of screening are lifesavers,” she said.
The exercise was attended by some medical experts who offered professional advice on the detection and treatment of breast cancer.
Speaking with Graphic Showbiz on the sidelines of the exercise, Miss Ankobiah mentioned that she was encouraged to organise the breast cancer screening for market women since they have little education and awareness about the disease.
“Bringing this initiative to market women is to help them understand what breast cancer is about because most of these people can’t spare the time to check their health status.

“October is the month for breast cancer awareness and so this is to help the women know it's good to check their breasts since many women have never gone for a checkup,” she said.
