A help from Nadia Buari

It was all smiles and joy for residents of Boko-Abisim, a suburb of Suhum in the Eastern Region, when award winning actress, Nadia Buari, inaugurated a project aimed at providing accessible and potable water for the locals.

The project, funded by the Nadia Buari Foundation, also saw the construction of two boreholes which will provide pupils of Suhum-Abisim Local Authority (LA) School with clean drinking water.

The community led by its chief, Nene Evans Nageh, expressed immense appreciation to the actress for reaching out to the village, which he said, had been sidelined by governments for years.

Nene Evans Nageh, who lamented about how Boko-Abisim has been left out in the sharing of the national cake appealed to the Beyonce actress to assist the community complete an 11-unit classroom block which has been abandoned for many years due to financial constraints.

In a brief speech, Nadia, who has starred in many movies including Mummy’s Daughter, Beyonce, Darkness of Sorrow, The Return of Beyonce, A Woman’s Hour, said she got to know of the needs and deplorable conditions of the people through a news story she saw on television and thought it was important to give back to the people who contributed to her success.

She said,  “I remember calling my personal assistant one an early morning to visit this community and learn at first hand some of the needs of the people. I was really heartbroken by the pictures he brought back. It was surprising to know that this community didn’t have good drinking water.”

Nadia said that even though the project cost her much, she was fulfilled to know that her assistance had put smiles on the faces of hundreds of residents at Boko-Abisim.

“It is my eternal wish that the water running through these tanks serve the purpose for which they were constructed. God bless the people of Suhum-Abisim, thank you,” she concluded.
