Ghanaian musician Sista Afia has revealed that one of her biggest fears about motherhood is ending up as a “baby mama” without the love, commitment and stable family life she desires.
The singer said while she looks forward to motherhood, she is not willing to have a child simply for the sake of becoming a mother.
According to the singer, known in private life as Francisca Duncan Williams Gawugah, seeing the number of single mothers in today’s generation has made her increasingly worried about the possibility of finding herself in a similar situation.
“Seeing how many single mothers there are in this generation honestly scares me. I’m not afraid of motherhood, but I’m afraid of becoming a single mother or just a ‘baby mama’ without the love, commitment, and family I always envisioned,” she said in a social media post.
Sista Afia said her ultimate goal is to build a home founded on love and commitment, rather than simply have a child.
“I want to build a home, not just have a child. And honestly, that fear scares the hell out of me,” she added.
Her candid remarks have triggered discussions about the pressures surrounding motherhood and the importance some women place on having a committed partner and stable family before having children.
For the Jeje hitmaker, motherhood is clearly not just about having a baby; it is about creating the kind of loving and complete home she has always imagined.
Her comments come against the backdrop of her own well-publicised experiences with relationships.
In September 2025, Sista Afia disclosed on The Delay that she had been out of a committed relationship for about eight years, largely because of her feelings for a particular man.
“It is because the person I love does not love me. There is someone I love, but he does not love me,” she said during the interview.
