Fast-rising Ghanaian songstress Abenah has emerged winner of the Chef Abbys jingle challenge for the upcoming Big Street Feast, a victory she says has revived her determination to continue her musical journey after years of pursuing a breakthrough.
The challenge, announced on social media by the popular Ghanaian chef, culinary creator and philanthropist, invited creatives to compose a jingle for the event, with participants required to incorporate the statement: "Wherever you are, street food will find you."
At first, Abenah known in her private life as Cecilia Cobbah Osei was reluctant to participate. It took encouragement from friends and her sister to get her to take up the challenge. Even after composing the jingle, she hesitated to post it. Eventually, she did, and days later, she was announced as the winner.
Speaking to GraphicOnline, she revealed that she had been considering quitting music by the end of the year after years of trying to establish herself without the recognition she had hoped for.
"I was almost giving up on music," she said.
For her, the win came at a time when she needed a reason to keep going. Following the announcement, the jingle gained traction across social media, drawing praise for her voice and prompting questions from people wondering where she had been all this time. Some asked why she was not taking music seriously, while others celebrated her vocal ability and writing skills.
But for Abenah, the questions revealed a deeper truth: she had not been absent from music. She had been working, writing and trying to find her footing in an industry where years of dedication do not always translate into the recognition an artiste hopes for.
"I have been here, trying to find my grounds in the music industry," is the message behind her response to the renewed attention.
The experience has given her fresh hope and renewed determination to continue her musical journey. Abenah says the jingle is only the beginning, and she plans to release new projects and continue building her career as a recording artiste.
"I am here to stay," she says, making it clear that she has no intention of walking away from music.
The Big Street Feast is scheduled for October 16, 2026, in Accra and Kumasi.
