Ceiling collapses on woman during 'Final Destination' screening

A birthday movie night turned into a real-life horror scene when a chunk of ceiling reportedly collapsed on a woman during a screening of Final Destination Bloodlines.

Fiamma Villaverde, a 29-year-old woman from Berisso, Argentina, visited a local movie theater in La Plata to celebrate her birthday with her 11-year-old daughter and a friend on May 19. They chose to watch the latest Final Destination film because the tickets were cheaper than usual.

“We hadn’t planned on going to the movies,” Villaverde told Infobae. “It was my birthday, we were out walking, and passed by the cinema. We said, ‘Shall we go?’”

Things took a terrifying turn when a piece of the ceiling fell during the screening.

“There was a loud noise. At first we thought it was part of the movie because we were really into it, but then a chunk fell on me,” Villaverde recalled, saying the debris struck her on the shoulder, back, knee, and ankle. “It didn’t hit my head because I happened to be leaning over the armrest.”

Villaverde immediately went to the ticket counter to ask for a refund while the cinema staff called an ambulance.

She recalled a manager at the location approaching her, saying, “How do you want to settle this?”

“Settle what? I’m going to file a complaint. What if it had hit my daughter in the head? You’re irresponsible!” she reportedly told them.

Emergency responders offered to take Villaverde to the hospital and cover the medical expenses, but she chose to go to a nearby hospital in Berisso on her own.

“I was furious … They did an X-ray. The diagnosis was trauma from the impact. I also have several bruises and need another X-ray on my back in a few days,” she said.

The mother says she now struggles with panic attacks and anxiety.

“I’m under psychiatric treatment and on medication,” she said. “It’s hard for me to be in crowded places. I hadn’t been to the movies in years. I went because it was my birthday, and look what happened.”

Villaverde, who works as a nightclub cleaner and is the sole caregiver for her daughter, told Infobae that she hasn’t filed a formal complaint yet but spoke to a lawyer.

“I haven’t been able to work for days. Who’s going to take responsibility for this?” she told the outlet.

Footage from other moviegoers showed the hole left in the ceiling and debris on the floor of the screening. Attendees speculated that recent heavy rains may have caused the collapse.
