Chasing awards not my priority now –Nero X

GHANAIAN singer Nero X is not losing sleep over awards. While recognition in the music industry can be a career-defining moment, the Osey hitmaker insists that currently, his focus is to deliver quality music to his fans.

With over a decade in the industry and still yet to claim a major music award, Nero X, real name Joseph Nkrumah Buabeng, believes accolades will come naturally when the time is right.

While many artistes measure success by the number of trophies on their shelves, Nero X remains unfazed by the absence of major industry accolades, insisting that his focus is on creating timeless songs rather than chasing recognition.

In an exclusive interview with Graphic Showbiz on Saturday, March 29, Nero X, who has been in the industry for over a decade, admitted that winning awards could have a profound impact on an artiste’s career. He acknowledged receiving awards both locally and internationally, however, top honours from prestigious schemes such as the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) have so far eluded him.

“When it comes to awards, I have received a few, both in Ghana and abroad, but I am yet to  win accolades from major schemes such as TGMA. I have had a few nominations from them though.”

“That doesn’t bother me at all though. My priority is working for my fans, and when the time is right, the awards will come. For now, putting in the works is what matters most,” he said.

Moving away from awards, Nero X touched on Ghana’s creative industry, expressing his satisfaction with progress being made especially under the leadership of President John Mahama.

“I’m happy with how the creative industry is moving now and the policies being put in place by government although they have been in office for only three months. I hope to see more drastic changes so we can confidently take our crafts global,” he stated.

Nero X dropped Low Key, a single he described as a personal song which reflected his music journey, on Saturday, March 29.

“Low Key is my latest single in 2025. It talks about my personal experiences in music over the years. First, I want to thank and appreciate everyone who has supported me from day one.”

“Secondly, I want to motivate my fans never to give up in life but to work hard and make money. And lastly, it’s also a way to let people know that I’m still around, working on great things, and keeping it ‘Low Key,’” he explained.
