After months of legal dispute and family disagreement threatened to overshadow legendary Highlife artiste, Daddy Lumba's final burial service is taking place today, December 13, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Accra High Court had ordered the funeral to proceed, clearing the way for fans, family, and dignitaries to bid farewell to the music icon.
The funeral service is currently underway, with mourners gathered to pay their last respects to Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60.
Contrary to fears of family disagreements and legal battle veiling the glory of the final funeral rites, the event has so far had grand affair, with government officials, traditional leaders, and music industry stakeholders in attendance.
As dawn broke, the sprawling Baba Yara Stadium was transformed into a vibrant tribute ground. Colourful stalls lined the entrance routes, with vendors selling memorabilia such as T-shirts, caps, and programmes commemorating Daddy Lumba's impact on Ghanaian culture.
The air was filled with the familiar rhythms of highlife, including many of Lumba's classics, as mourners clasped songbooks and sang along, blending joy and grief.

The stalls offered a glimpse into Daddy Lumba's enduring legacy, with images and lyrics from his iconic songs adorning the stalls. As the music played on, the crowd's soft singing created a poignant harmony, a testament to the lasting impact of Daddy Lumba's music on Ghanaian culture.
Notable attendees at the funeral service included NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene, and Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu. Business leaders Osei Kwame Despite and Akwasi Sarpong also paid their respects.
The emotional atmosphere was palpable as Nana Acheampong performed the first song he composed with Daddy Lumba, struggling to hold back tears.
President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) donated GH¢50,000 to support the funeral arrangements of the late Daddy Lumba.
This comes after an Accra High Court ruling allowed the funeral to proceed, following a GH¢2 million injunction dispute involving Daddy Lumba's maternal family.
Lawyers hailed the decision as a moment of relief and unity, urging Ghanaians to come together to honour the music icon.
