Daddy Lumba’s Mpempem Do Me makes King Charles’ Commonwealth Day Playlist

SEASONED Ghanaian Highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, has earned international spotlight as his hit song Mpempem Do Me features on King Charles III’s special playlist put together for Commonwealth Day, celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2025.

The celebrated 2008 track proudly holds the seventh spot on the 17-track playlist, which showcases a mix of timeless classics and contemporary global hits from iconic artistes such as Beyoncé, Bob Marley, Diana Ross, Grace Jones among others.

Curated with the support of Apple Music, the playlist reflects the diversity and rich cultural heritage of the Commonwealth, including standout songs like Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley & The Wailers, My Boy Lollipop by Millie Small, The Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue, The Very Thought of You by Al Bowlly, La Vie En Rose by Grace Jones and Love Me Again by Raye

Notably, the playlist pays homage to African and Asian influences with selections like Daddy Lumba’s Mpempem Do Me, KANTE by Nigerian musician Davido featuring Fave, Anta Permana by Malaysian songstress Siti Nurhaliza, and The Click Song (Qongqothwane) by South African legend Miriam Makeba.
