DJ Iyce joins the fray

Although she is not attached to any radio station, Nana Adjoa Owusu aka D J Iyce leaves her audience asking for more anytime she is behind the console at a club, parties and live  events.

Only a couple of weeks ago when she took her turn at Samini’s Dancestardom nightclub, it is reported that she virtually “killed” the party.

DJ Iyce believes her dream of becoming the number one DJ in Ghana and beyond has just started. “Disc jockeying has been the domain of men but I believe I can make a difference adding up to the likes of DJ Kess of YFM and DJ Tipsy who are doing  great.

“I listen to current music all the time to be abreast of current music.  I am regularly on the internet downloading new tracks or listening to radio  to update myself with new songs” she told Showbiz in an interview last Friday.

The 27-year-old DJ who started her career at Akosombo International school said there are few female DJs in Ghana unlike other countries where there are  several  female DJs doing so great.

“I don’t like the fact that a lot of people think Disc Jockeying is for men. Anytime I go to a party or a club and I am not the one playing, I always wish the DJ was a woman. At least, I have not disappointed my fans anywhere I am given the opportunity to entertain”.

Asked why she decided to D J instead of work in a bank or any institution, DJ Iyce who prefers to be in a pair of snickers, jeans shorts and polo shirts said she has always dreamt of being a top class DJ in Ghana and beyond and nothing will stop her from achieving that.

According to her, she is glad her parents did not stop her from achieving her dream to become a world class DJ.

“Not many parents would allow their children to take Disc Jockeying as their full time career but my parents are understanding and believe in me that I will achieve my dream no matter the years it takes”

To her, there is no big party or nightclub she will “kill fire” when she is given the opportunity.

“When the place is dull and I step in, everyone knows I am around because I give the audience what they want. Since I started this work about four years ago, never have I “killed fire” when I am given the opportunity and it is all because I know the songs the people want to hear”.

Currently a second year student of GH Media School at Achimota, Accra, and the official DJ to dancehall artiste, Episode, DJ Iyce is ready with her TV Show, Time with DJ Iyce which will be showing on the television  soon.
