Tears flow as Aduana Stars hand over slain player’s belongings to family
Management of Aduana Stars have formally informed the family of their player, Dominic Frimpong, of his death following a fatal armed robbery attack, in an emotional visit to Assin Dansame.
The club symbolically handed over the late player’s camp bag to his family on Monday, a gesture that triggered scenes of grief among relatives and sympathisers.
Frimpong, a 20-year-old forward who was on loan to Berekum Chelsea at the time of his death, was shot by masked gunmen while the team was returning from a match at Samreboi on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
A delegation led by Aduana Stars Chief Executive Officer, Collins Atta Poku, visited the bereaved family to formally convey the club’s condolences and brief them on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
He also delivered a message of sympathy from the Dormaahene and club owner, Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II.
Emotions ran high when Mr Atta Poku presented the player’s bag, containing his personal belongings, to the family, with many overcome with grief.
According to Mr Atta Poku, the club owner had instructed that the bag should not be opened but handed over in its current state, symbolising the player’s permanent absence from the team.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Berekum Government Hospital morgue as investigations into the incident continue.
The remains are expected to be conveyed to his hometown, Assin Dansame, in two weeks in line with the family’s funeral arrangements.
The delegation included a member of the Berekum Chelsea technical team, Obed Owusu, and the Chairman of the Central Regional Football Association, Otieku Duncan, who represented the President of the Ghana Football Association.
Mr Duncan conveyed the condolences of GFA President Kurt Okraku and assured the family of the football fraternity’s full support during this difficult period.
Mr Owusu narrated the circumstances of the incident to the family and expressed the team’s condolences.
The Gyaasehene of Assin Dansame, who is also the Abusuapanin of the family, welcomed the delegation and assured them of the family’s collaboration with the club and the GFA towards a befitting burial.
