I cried over award snubs – Kcee.

Nigerian singer Kcee, born Kingsley Okonkwo, has opened up about the emotional toll of being repeatedly overlooked by award organisers.

Speaking on the Echo Room podcast, the “Limpopo” crooner revealed that the lack of nominations in the early stages of his career affected him deeply, sometimes reducing him to tears.

“Initially, the music industry wasn’t giving me recognition. It was the fans who kept supporting me. I wasn’t being nominated for awards, and it really hurt. I cried,” he said.

Reflecting on that period, Kcee noted that the experience helped him develop resilience and shift his focus away from seeking validation through awards.

“Over time, I grew a thick skin. Now, whether I win an award or I’m not nominated, it doesn’t bother me,” he added.

The singer emphasised that the love and support from his fans have been far more fulfilling than industry accolades, shaping his growth and longevity in the music scene.
