Fame is spiritual, fortify yourself —Prophet Boahen warns celebs

FOUNDER and leader of Reign House Chapel in Accra, Prophet Eric Boahen, has warned celebrities to take their spiritual well-being seriously, stressing that fame is not just admiration but a spiritual phenomenon with hidden consequences.

He explained that the limelight attracts both good and bad attention, leaving celebrities vulnerable to depression, mental health struggles, suicide among others.

Speaking with Graphic Showbiz on Monday, September 1, Prophet Boahen, who is no stranger to Ghana’s entertainment space, noted his caution was not to instil fear, but to open the eyes of celebrities to the unseen battles that come with life in the limelight.

“Fame is not just about being recognised; it’s a spiritual reality that requires a strong foundation. Celebrities must invest in spiritual growth if they want to sustain their success and mental well-being.

“The limelight attracts both good and bad eyes, leaving public figures vulnerable to spiritual manipulation. This explains why many celebrities, despite appearing to ‘have it all’, struggle with depression and, in extreme cases, suicide.

“How many times haven’t we heard celebrities confessing their mental health battles? Some even give up and take their lives. For the ordinary person, it may be overlooked, but if you understand the weight of fame, you will prepare differently before stepping into it,” he explained.

While his advice is directed at all celebrities, Prophet Boahen expressed special concern for Gospel artistes. He warned that singing about God should never be reduced to mere showmanship.

“If God has given them a platform, it should not be for show. Faith is not a costume you wear for the cameras; it must be lived authentically—both in private and in public,” he cautioned.

Over the years, Prophet Boahen has dedicated himself to supporting entertainers spiritually, offering guidance to help them remain grounded while navigating fame.

His church has hosted gospel stars such as Empress Gifty, Jak Alolome, Broda Sammy, MOG Music, Maame Tiwa, Kofi Peprah and Moses OK, as well as highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena.

The Prophet also weighed in on a recent remark by Pastor Mensah Otabil, founder of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), who encouraged Christians not to allow their faith to limit them from exploring opportunities in showbiz. He argued that secular people explored the space and yet stayed grounded with their beliefs.

Prophet Boahen agreed with him, insisting that faith and entertainment are not mutually exclusive.

“Has any secular artiste ever complained that Christians corrupted them? Then why do we assume the reverse? I tell my members to enter acting, music, TV presentation—own that space instead of shying away.

“I always encourage my church members to get into acting, music, TV presentation and own that space instead of being laid back when it comes to the entertainment industry,” he stated.
