Fredyma says it’s costly to run entertainment programmes
Renowned Ghanaian sound engineer, Fred Kyei-Mensah, popularly known as Fredyma, says the high priced nature of entertainment programmes is affecting the quality of production.
According to Fredyma, who joins pundits to review industry issues, the entertainment programmes made weekend television viewing very exciting and this was good for the sector.

However, he raised concerns about how they have been beneficial for the sector’s growth.
“A lot of money goes into the production plus the money that is paid guests when they come on the show, so it has become very costly for the stations who run these entertainment shows. So sometimes, it affects the quality of production.
“Secondly, it also depends on the reach of the stations on which the shows are being aired, their reach on the satellite or digital platforms.
“These shows normally come off on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays so it is becoming interesting in terms of content because every day when you go on social media, there is a lot of content being provided but as to how beneficial the stories are for discussion on television is another thing,” he told Graphic Showbiz.
As a sound engineer Fredyma also opines that there is nothing like bad sound as far as he is concerned but rather, there are bad pieces of equipment.
“I don’t know anything as bad sound but we have bad equipment, when you go to any village for a funeral and they are playing Kojo Antwi’s song, for example, definitely if the speakers are not good, you won’t enjoy the song.

“For instance, we have Enwomkro (traditional music), which is sometimes played at engagements, funerals, etc. The sound of these recordings would be different from, for example, Kojo Antwi‘s song, which is recorded in a studio. So a listener of Enwomkro will prefer that kind of sound to any other because it is very authentic,” he explained.
