The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) recorded its third consecutive session of gains on Wednesday, with the GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) adding 44.92 points to close at 13,126.11, as buying interest in banking and oil marketing stocks continued to drive the market.

Trading data for the 7,186th session, held on April 8, 2026, showed sustained investor confidence, with market capitalisation increasing to GH¢244.95 billion, up from Tuesday's GH¢244.37 billion.

Total volume of shares traded for the session reached 2,529,616, with aggregate value hitting GH¢19,074,002.82—a significant increase from Tuesday's figures.

TotalEnergies leads gainers

TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC (TOTAL) continued its impressive run, surging by GH¢0.90 to close at GH¢38.10. The oil marketing company attracted significant investor interest, with 20,830 shares traded, contributing GH¢793,623 to total market value.

GCB Bank PLC (GCB) added GH¢0.49 to close at GH¢25.49, while SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) jumped GH¢0.29 to GH¢3.37.

Scancom PLC (MTNGH) rose by GH¢0.05 to close at GH¢5.50. The telecommunications giant remained the most actively traded counter, with 1,281,303 shares changing hands—accounting for more than half of all trading activity—and contributing GH¢7,046,930.80 to total market value.

Laggards weigh on market

Societe Generale Ghana PLC (SOGEGH) declined by GH¢0.46 to close at GH¢5.50, while Cal Bank PLC (CAL) shed GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.73. Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) edged down GH¢0.01 to GH¢11.69.

BOPP holds steady at GH¢100

Benso Palm Plantation PLC (BOPP) maintained its historic triple-digit price level, closing unchanged at GH¢100.00, with 554 shares traded, contributing GH¢55,400 to total market value.

Market summary

The GSE-CI has now gained 49.67 per cent since the start of the year, while the financial stocks index remains up 70.27 per cent year-to-date.

Wednesday's session marked the third consecutive day of gains following the Easter break, with TotalEnergies, GCB Bank, and MTN Ghana providing the primary lift to the benchmark index.
