34 suspects arrested over Funsi shooting incident that claimed three lives
A total of 34 suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with a shooting incident linked to a chieftaincy dispute in Funsi in the Wa East District of Upper West Region, which resulted in the deaths of three young men.
In a press release dated May 24, the Upper West Regional Police Command said on the night of May 22, the Funsi Police received information that two persons had been shot and killed at the Gbelonosi section of Funsi.
Police proceeded to the scene and confirmed the deaths of Fufulu Nandugu, aged 37, and Yussif Samahan, aged 22.
During subsequent police operations and investigations, a third victim, Amadu Lukman, aged 20, was also found dead in the community.
A reinforcement team comprising the Regional Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, visited the affected community to support ongoing investigations and maintain law and order.
Exhibits retrieved
So far, 34 suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police also retrieved one shotgun, bow and arrows, gunpowder, spent cartridges, talisman-embedded smocks, and a medallion believed to be central to the chieftaincy tensions between the rival gates.
All suspects and exhibits have since been conveyed to Wa to assist with further investigations.
