Ghanaian Dance Group Afodat to lead Black History Month celebrations across UK venues
The United Kingdom will mark Black History Month 2025 with a series of high-energy cultural performances headlined by the renowned Afodat Dance Group.
The group will stage three major shows in October, combining traditional African dance, drumming, and storytelling to celebrate the richness of Black heritage and its enduring influence on global culture.
The performances are scheduled for October 4 and October 11 at the Broadwater Farm Community Centre, followed by a headline event on October 18 at the Lighthouse Theatre. Each show will run from 6pm to 10pm, offering audiences an immersive cultural experience. Tickets are priced at £20.
Founded with the vision of preserving and showcasing African traditions through performance, the Afodat Dance Group has earned a reputation for its dynamic stagecraft, colourful costumes, and ability to engage audiences of all ages. Their repertoire blends authentic African rhythms with contemporary elements, reflecting both cultural continuity and innovation.
Black History Month, observed annually in October in the UK, provides an opportunity to recognize the achievements, struggles, and contributions of Black people across generations.
This year’s events are expected to draw diverse audiences, creating a platform not only for entertainment but also for reflection and dialogue on the significance of cultural heritage in shaping society.
Speaking ahead of the event, representatives of the Afodat Dance Group emphasized the importance of using art as a tool for education and unity. “Through dance and drumming, we celebrate resilience, identity, and the stories of our ancestors. Our performances are more than entertainment—they are lessons in history and expressions of pride,” the group noted.
Organizers say the series of events aims to strengthen community connections while inspiring younger generations to embrace and preserve their cultural roots.
With vibrant performances, live drumming, and interactive audience moments, the shows promise to be a highlight of this year’s Black History Month calendar.
