Go to sleep, my career not dead —Stay Jay to critics
FOR the past few years, the once vibrant Hiplife artiste Stay Jay has been missing in action which has set tongues wagging that his music career has taken a nose dive.
But the musician claps back at his critics telling them to "go to sleep", and that he is still active and ready to shut down any venue whenever he is called upon.

About 12 years ago when he hit the limelight with hit single Shashee Wowo, Stay Jay became an instant household name and graced the stage of most events at the time.
And to keep up the momentum as most new kids on the block, Stay Jay gifted his fans with bangers such as Yenko Nkoaa, My Baby, Prepaid Gurl, Twame Lala, and Sue as the years rolled by.
His craft put him in a league of his own earning him features and collaborations with some A-list artistes making the sky and even beyond his limit.
However, the 2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA) Best New Artiste of the Year seems to have fallen off the music radar in recent times raising concerns about his relevance in the Ghanaian music scene.
In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, Stay Jay, born William Kojo Johnson, said claims that his career was over were inaccurate and that he was too accomplished to just vanish from the scene.
According to him, although he was not as active as before, he was still working and adjusting to the changing trends.

He said new trends were emerging, and he was taking his time to study them, adapt and release songs that would meet standards and excite his fans, as well as music enthusiasts.
“The system evolves always so I make sure I catch up with the new trends to provide the best of good music to fans and music lovers. I am still active in the system with current releases. When you search, you will find new works from me.
“I am very experienced in this business. I have all the correct plugs so it’s never a problem for me to work my way around. I have released songs recently and they are banging hard. I have others in the pipeline and my fans will hear them soon,” he said.
Stay Jay said in addition to adjusting to the latest trends, he was also using every trick in the book to stay out of controversy.

He said while some artistes thrived on controversy to remain relevant in the industry, he did not share that view and would rather keep a low profile.
“I don’t believe in riding on controversies to stay relevant. I want to do what is right, stay focused and concentrate on releasing good music. And mind you, not just any song but quality ones,” he added.
Stay Jay, however, urged his fans to be patient with him because he would give them a pleasant surprise.

“Of course, I can’t let the cat out of the bag now but it is a wonderful surprise. One that will put the haters and sceptics who have been attacking me to shame,” he stated.
