GUBA awards launched

Dentaa AmoatengThe Fourth edition of the Ghana UK Based Achievement (GUBA) Awards has been launched at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Accra. The main event is however scheduled to take place on November 16 at the Park Plaza Riverbank Hotel in U.K.

The event which was inaugurated in October 2010 is held to showcase and celebrate excellence and achievement within the British Ghanaian community and to reward outstanding individuals who have provided valuable services to Ghanaians in the UK and Ghana.

Musicians to grace the occasion and who will come from nominees of the Artist of the Year category, include Clement Marfo, Sway, Fuse ODG, Tinchy Stryder, Guvna B and Lethal B.

Vying for award in the African Fashion Fusion category are Mina Evans, Duaba Serwaa, Christie Brown and JIL Boutique, all Ghana based designers whose wares have gained rapid popularity and appreciation not only in Ghana but also in the Diaspora.

This year’s stellar line up of recipients of the Black Award, include Mr. Herman Chinery-Hesse, who is receiving the Exceptional Achievement Award for his pioneering role in software development and implementation in Ghana, England’s most capped player of all-time, footballer Rachel Yankey MBE, who receives the Sporting Achievement Award and MOBO Awards founder, Kanya King who will receive the Enterprise Mogul Award for her achievements in creating, developing and diversifying the esteemed MOBO brand.

The Founder and CEO of GUBA, Dentaa Amoateng who Spoke at the launch noted that apart from celebrating excellence and achievement within the British Ghanaian community, the organisation also provides support for families with autistic children by ensuring that the children received quality education.

The ceremony which was emceed by ace broadcaster Kwami Sefa Kayi was also attended by Hon Fritz Baffour, Abeiku Santana, Lisa Lovatt-Smith Founder and President of OrphanAid Africa, Clifford Duke Mettle, President of Chartered Institute of Bankers, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, J.N Halm, Kweku Sekyi Addo and Ama K Abebrese among others. There was also a performance by Maame Esi, winner of this year’s TV3 Talented Kidz competition.
