Gunu pledges to support MUSIGA in VR to promote culture, tourism

The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu has given an assurance that the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) will support the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in various ways to promote the tourism and cultural development agenda of the region.

Mr Gunu said this when the regional chairman of the MUSIGA, Anthony Dagbey and other members of the union paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Ho on Monday (July 21), to brief him on the union’s forthcoming launch of a new album to raise funds to purchase new musical instruments.

Mr Dagbey said new instruments would enable the union hold public performances to raise more funds to support some development activities in the region.

“Apart from that, we will train more young people on how to use the musical instruments to boost our public shows,” he added.

Mr Dagbey said the launch would take place on Ho September 21, which coincided with the regional minister’s birthday.

He said after the launch, the union would embark on a tour across the region to perform to the public, adding the musical performances would also include Borborbor, Akpese, Akpi, Zigi, Agbadza and other cultural performances.

The regional minister pledged to support the fund-raising activities of the union with the appropriate resources and help to popularise the shows among the populace.

“Music is an integral part our culture and we must preserve and promote it with great zeal and enthusiasm,” Mr Gunu added.
