If you insult small, pause and drink water- DKB on controversial "24-Hour Economy" skit

Ghanaian comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has fired back at critics after his skit on the NDC's 24-hour policy sparked intense backlash.

As a vocal supporter of John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), DKB created the skit to share his understanding of Mahama's “24 Hour Economy” policy with fellow Ghanaians.

However, the video went viral on social media, inviting harsh criticism from notable figures like Franklyn Cudjoe, President of IMANI Ghana and political opponents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a press statement yesterday, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) encouraged individuals and party faithfuls to seek guidance and clearance from that party before producing an advert for the party.

A part of the statement signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Director of NDC said, “anyone desirous of producing an advert to promote the policies of the NDC to contact the National Communications Bureau of the party for necessary clearance and guidance.”

Even though the said statement didn’t make mention of DKB’s advert on Mahama’s “24 Hour Economy” policy, the comedian was trolled for allegedly being betrayed by the NDC party for “disgracing” them by netizens.

In response, DKB has asked his critics to relax since the advert was just a skit.

“Please if you insult small, pause and drink water. Go commercial break. It’s just a skit, I haven’t killed anybody. Just a skit to communicate how I understand 24-hour economy to people,” he stated.

DKB's comedic career has been marked by controversy and resilience, from his early days performing at the university to his infamous stint on Big Brother Africa in 2012.

Despite past setbacks, DKB, who is the headline host for Comedy Express has established himself as a prominent figure in Ghanaian comedy, earning titles like “King of Ghana Comedy” at a point in time.
