Joseph Matthew steals the show at Tema Praise Street Concert
UK-based Ghanaian Afrocentric musician Joseph Matthew was the highlight of this year's Tema Praise Street Concert, held on Boxing Day at the TDC Towers Forecourt in Tema. The annual event celebrates Tema's rich cultural heritage, showcasing local and international talents.
Thousands of music enthusiasts gathered to experience an unforgettable night of performances. Joseph Matthew, renowned for seamlessly blending traditional gospel elements with contemporary sounds, captivated the audience with his enchanting stage presence and mesmerising vocals.
The crowd was visibly enthralled, singing along to his well-known songs such as Blessed, The Name, Nyame Ye and his latest banger, Fear No Evil.
Patrons danced to the rhythms, erupting in cheers as he showcased his impressive vocal range and instrumental skills. Other notable performers included Team Eternity and Cwesi Oteng.
In 2018, his songs such as Halleluyah, My Story and Nyame Ye did quite well in the UK but it was difficult for Gospel music artiste, Joseph Mathew to get same appreciation back home in Ghana.
Reason? His style of music which he labeled Afro Gospel was perhaps ‘alien’ to the Ghanaian Gospel audience who thought it too worldly to belong to the church.
Gradually, he got the attention and Joseph was emboldened to host his maiden concert at the Perez Dome in 2022.
