Klefe rounds 2025 Yam festival

THE chiefs, queens and people of Klefe in the Volta Region on Saturday (September 27) rounded off their 2025 Yam Festival with a grand durbar of cultural expositions at Klefe-Demete.

The event, which was on the theme, Youth Development – The Future of Our Community, attracted celebrants and cultural troupes from various parts of the region.

The year’s celebration was meant to raise funds to development structures at the Klefe Technical Institute.

The Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, in a speech read on her behalf, pledged the government will equip Klefe Technical Institute to rise to great heights and become a shining example among educational institutions in the country.

She said the initiative of the people of Klefe and their outstanding spirit of communal labour and self-reliance in supporting technical education aligns perfectly with the Government’s commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Ghana.

Touching in the theme, Professor Opoku-Agyemang said the youth were not just leaders of tomorrow but also active participants in today’s development.

Therefore, she said, the challenges of youth unemployment were serious national concerns which required collective action.

She announced the Government would facilitate the provision of the electrical accessories, plumbing materials, painting supplies, fencing materials, and the 40 double-decker beds with mattresses needed to complete the ongoing dormitory block and teachers’ residence projects at Klefe Technical Institute.

The Vice President gave an assurance the school’s administration, and dormitory blocks, dining hall, and additional classrooms projects would receive priority consideration in the next funding cycle.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang gave an assurance the Ministry of Education would work with the Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training to provide the necessary tools and equipment for sewing, fashion design, catering, welding, fabrication and other technical areas.

“We will also explore providing a school bus to facilitate student movement for internship and apprenticeship,” she added.

Beyond the technical institute, the Vice President said the Government was also committed to addressing the environmental concerns in Klefe.

In that regard, she said, the Ministry of Environment Science Technology and Innovation would collaborate with the Klefe Traditional Council to development sustainable environmental management practices to combat deforestation, illegal mining and pollution.

Those practices would run with a vigorous support for the agricultural heritage of the people, the Vice President said.

Meanwhile, Mr Segbefia entreated the youth of Klefe to avoid substance abuse and social vices, and rather embrace technical education and skill development.

“Your future is bright and the Government is committed to creating opportunities for you to thrive,” he affirmed.

The Fiaga of Klefe, Togbe Koku Dzaga XI said Klefe Technical Institute was growing steadily over the past two decades, and now had an enrolment of 150.

He said the people of Klefe were now waiting in the Government’s promise to support the school with various facilities to build a skilled workforce though Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET).

Togbe Dzaga urged students of Klefe Technical Institute to study diligently towards a bright future and be good ambassador of the institute.

An amount of GH 260,000 was raised in aid of the technical institute.
