Food company Mcphilix launches 'Borode' festival

As part of celebrating a decade in the hospitality industry, Ghanaian food company, Mcphilix Limited, has launched an annual  festivalm dubbed 'Borode' Festival [plantain]. It is aimed at celebrating Ghanaian cuisine, featuring various traditional delicacies of plantain.

The maiden edition of the two day festival has been scheduled to take place from March 7 to 8, 2025. It will similarly promote culture, and community, featuring music, art, and entertainment.

In a welcome address at the launch, the Human Resource Manager for Mcphilix, Georgina Adomako –Mensah explained that Borode festival is a key event in the company’s 10th-anniversary celebration, focusing on the rich culture of plantain processing and community spirit.

The two-day festival promises a lively array of activities, including plantain-based cuisine, music, dance, and art, catering to food lovers and culture enthusiasts alike. 

In a presentation, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mcphilix Ltd, Felix Afutu reflected on the company’s journey from a humble table-top operation to its current standing as a growing food company.

He stressed on the importance of the Borode Festival in showcasing the vibrant Ghanaian and African heritage. The CEO further encouraged participation from all, noting that the event offers a unique experience for everyone.

“I am honoured to be before you today as the CEO of Mcphilix Ltd, as we celebrate a major milestone – our 10-year anniversary! From humble beginnings as a table top operation to our current status as a growing company, we are proud of our journey and grateful for your support.

“As part of our anniversary celebrations, we are excited to launch the inaugural Borode Festival, a vibrant celebration of plantain processing, culture, and community! This festival is a testament to our commitment to bringing people together and promoting Ghanaian and African heritage,” he stated.

He also added that the company has opened its doors for sponsorship and partnership opportunities, inviting organizations and individuals to contribute to the festival’s success.

Akosua Naana Lexis Obenewaa Opoku-Agyemang, General Manager of the company, reinforced the significance of the Borode Festival, affirming its permanence and long-term impact. She further highlighted the festival's potential to draw global attention, enticing international audiences to experience the country's unique cultural treasures and attractions.

Highlights of the festival will include plantain-themed games, cultural workshops, and plantain cooking competition.

“Whether you’re a plantain lover, a foodie, or simply looking for a unique experience, the Borode Festival has something for everyone” she added.

She also disclosed that the venue and ambassadors for the festival will be disclosed later as part of measures of to whet up interest as the date draws closer.
