Nana Sam is first Dreams winner
A drama teacher of the Ghana International School, Nana Sam Elliot–Sackeyfio, was last Saturday, crowned the winner of the maiden edition of the Dreams singing competition held at the Osu Neighbourhood Centre in Accra.
Nana Sam who thrilled the patrons with her singing abilities on the day, beat 11 other competitors to take the first position.
For her prize, she received GH¢1,000, a brand new Samsung Galaxy tablet, a contract to feature in all Roverman plays next year and a year supply of Rover Report, a monthly magazine produced by Roverman Productions.
The second position went to Alison Asihene and there was a tie for the third position which went to Ama Acheampong and Maureen Micah. They went home with nothing because the competition was a winner-takes-all affair.
During the competition, each of the contestants was poised to make a difference with their delivery in the various segments. They were judged on their vocal strength, stagecraft and costume.
One by one, the contestants performed two songs each of any genre of their choice and at the end of it all, Nana Sam, whose perfomances drew loud cheers and applause from the patrons, came up tops.
Mr James Ebo Whyte, aka Uncle Ebo Whyte, CEO of Roverman Productions, organisers of the event, expressed his excitement about the competition. “Ghanaians know Roverman Production for plays but this is our new baby and in future, we will give it a bigger platform like we do with our plays. We hope to get the support of all so that we can unearth talents to feed our creative market,” he said in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
The winner, Nana Sam, obviously excited, expressed her appreciation to Roverman and Uncle Ebo for giving her the platform to showcase her talent. “I hope to take my interest in music to the next level. This is just the beginning for me,” she stated.
Special guest at the event was highlife artiste, Kojo Antwi, who commented on the show saying, “I am overwhelmed at the talents I’ve seen today and happy to be part of this competition”.
