New Kumawood filmmakers are lazy - AA Productions
Popular Kumawood movie producer, Mustapha Adams aka A.A of A.A Production has lashed out at the new crop of Kumawood movie makers calling them lazy and not being creative.
This is because movies coming from Kumasi in recent times feature the same crop of actors and the same storylines thus exhibiting the producers lack of creativity.
In an interview with Showbiz on Saturday, AA complained bitterly saying, “ In fact, now we have businessmen calling themselves producers and taking over from the good movie producers. They have the money to pay the actor, any amount the actor wants so they would rather go to them than come to us who cannot afford to pay so much.
“For example, I produced Azonto Ghost and these so called movie makers are toeing the same storyline and using almost the same characters. Why can’t they do something different” he queried.
A.A said there was serious competition when he started producing movies more than a decade ago.
“The movie scene used to be challenging with the likes of Miracle Films, Paul Gee Productions, myself and a few others churning out varied productions but we don’t have that anymore. We now have business men taking over and producing very bad movies,” he angrily added.
He urged movie producers to be creative in order to help grow the film industry.
“I would want the new film makers to come out with good stories as well as introduce new faces instead of just casting only the A-List actors. It is very unprofessional to ‘copy’. There is no way I will make a movie with a storyline already out on the market”, he said.
Talking about some of his achievements, he said he has nutured a lot of talents adding that actor Lil Win cut his teeth in film through him.
Asked his biggest selling movie, AA mentioned Banker To Banker and Abawa Marry. “I made a lot of money from Abawa and Banker to Banker which featured actors, Santo and Judas”, he stated.
Other actors AA has worked with include Lil Win, Nadia, Jackie Appiah, Judas, Lil Win, Van Vicker, Emelia Brobbey, Nana Ama McBrown, Benedicta Gafah, Wayoosi and Majid Michel.
And he was the brain behind movies such as Banker To Banker, Matriki Wo, Azonto Ghost, Passion and Soul, In The Eyes of My Husband, A little Affair, Golden Stool, Mogya Kronkron, Big Boy Wizzy and Handsome Paddies.
