Panafest &Emancipation 2025 Day to be held from July 17-August 2

This year’s celebration of Panafest & Emancipation 2025 Day will be held from Thursday, July 17-August 2 on the theme, "Let Us Speak of Reparative Justice - Pan-African Artistic Activism."

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Cultural and Creative Arts and Ghana Tourism Authority, this year's celebration will span multiple regions and sacred heritage sites across Ghana, bringing together Africans and the diaspora in a powerful journey of remembrance reconnection and renewal.

In a press statement signed by Head of Corporate Affairs for GTA, Bright Asempa Tsadidey, it mentioned that the celebration will start with Slave Route Pilgrimage at places such as Pikworo, Paga Salaga, Tamale, Bono Manso and Assin Praso and Salaga Atonement Ceremonies at Salaga.

From the emotional atonement ceremonies in Salaga and Assin Praso, to deep spiritual encounters at Elmina and Cape Coast, PANAFEST 2025 is a call to unity healing and Pan-African solidarity.

Among the activities earmarked for the two week celebrations are cultural exhibitions, academic colloquia, wellness sessions, sacred rituals and vibrant performances to blend tradition and creativity.

Speaking at the launch on June 23, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie urged younger generations to “reconnect with Africa’s rich heritage” and confirmed commitments to material restitution and institutional reform within the reparative justice framework.

Since its first appearance in 1992, PANAFEST has been recognised globally as a vital platform for reflecting on the Trans‑Atlantic slave trade, honouring ancestors and promoting Pan‑African solidarity
