Ripe package at legends show

Femi Kuti came on stage sporting a ‘coat of many colours’ and that tied in well with his multi-approach, very  entertaining package at the third Kasapreko African Legends Night last Saturday at the State House in Accra.

The sound of his 14-piece Afro-beat/jazz band that included five horn players  and three backing singers-dancers was really big.

He played keyboards, alto and soprano saxophones, danced energetically and sent a warm glow through everyone with his politically-charged singing.

Turnout  at the show organised by Global Media Alliance was  good and the  Nigerian musician exhibited the  elements  that have made him  a sought-after  international star.

He has mastered the dynamics of live presentation and managed to get his message-laden songs across with a witty blend of  humour and showmanship .

Before Femi came on, Amakye Dede had wowed the audience with some ‘seerious’ highlige stuff. It seemed everyone at the concert was waiting for him to be announced because the dance floor was filled immediately he stepped on stage.

Nana Konadu Rawlings was among the many cheery dancers who moved for about 30 minutes to favourite Amakye tracks like Akwadaa Wisia, Odo Da Beebi  and Sookoo Na Emmaa Pe.

Guitar man George Darko had come before Amakye with danceable items like Money Palava, Akwankwaa, Ekoo Te Brofo and Odo Colour. He got people to dance but Amakye proved he was the real crowd-puller.

Ofie has always been a class act. Backed by Kwame Yeboah’s ObY band, she sailed smoothly through some delightful pieces that included a swinging highlife-tinged  version of the famous Roberta Flack tune, Killing Me Softly.

Ben Brako was also there with two songs but the surprise performer  on the night was definitely Trigmatic. He is known as a rapper but he did more singing than rapping and generally put up a performance that can only be described as mature.

The funny moments thrown in by KSM helped liven up the night of ripe entertainment.
