Some female acts lack tenacity - Abiana
Contrary to claims that the music industry is not fair to female musicians, up and coming artiste Abiana, real name Eldah Dickson Naa Abiana believes that it is a fair playing field.
According to her, both male and female acts had equal opportunities, except that some women didn’t have the tenacity to stand the test of time.
In an interview with Graphic Showbiz Abiana contended that the music industry was a fair playing field. “We are fairly represented; it is a fair playing field, except that some women don’t have the tenacity to stand the test of time and that is why some of them fall off too easily,” she said.
In her view, the females in the music industry were doing very well. “They are all doing so well, I think that their performances and how they put themselves out there are commendable. They are people that I look up to.
“They have been able to hold the mantle very well and made it attractive for me to enter, so I am just grateful that they are doing great,” she stated.
Abiana has been in the music industry for barely nine months, but she clinched the Female Vocalist of the Year Award at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). She was in contention with the likes of Adina, Cina Soul, Efe Grace among others.

On how she felt about her big win Abiana said, “I feel so humbled, it is just a confirmation that I am doing the right thing and I am grateful for that.”
For some reason, not everyone was in agreement with her win and some critics stated that she was new and shouldn’t have won, but she told Graphic Showbiz that she deserved it.
“I will say that it is humbling for me and the fact that my song was nominated means that I had an equal chance of winning, so for me to even be in that category is something I will say was meant to be.
“Everybody in that category was hoping to win, so I am just grateful that I was nominated and I won as well, so being nominated just gave me a fair and equal chance of winning.
“I am not bothered because when I won, it just drew people to me. People started looking out for my music. People didn’t know me that much but after I won, they went to look me up and said I deserved it,” she stated.
Abiana just launched her fourth single, Me and You, and it is streaming on all digital platforms. “I am also preparing for my album, so I want people to stay tuned because it is going to be different kinds of music. There will be something for everyone,” she indicated.
She added that she believed in collaborations and hoped to work with some of her colleague females.
“I believe women have to get a united front; we all have to support one another, so if a collaboration comes up between myself and any of the female musicians, it will give us a stronger bargaining power on the industry front,” she said.

Abiana expressed gratitude to everyone who had supported her career. “I would love to thank the fans for believing so much in me and to my record label +233 Records for believing in my talent and investing in me.
“To people who are hearing my name for the first time, I want them to follow me on all my social media handles,” she concluded.
