Proposal for preventing encroachment on reserved lands

The use of land is paramount in every endeavour.

Therefore, its acquisition is no mean endeavour.

Land always stands out in all the factors of production because it is indispensable to all forms of production or service.

Land acquisition is, therefore, a prime legacy, with people often scrambling for it. In its acquisition, some will even lay down their lives.

In Ghana, like in some parts of the world, there have been some forced acquisitions, with dire consequences.

Floods in some parts of the country are cases in point.

Land acquisition and development are expensive endeavours; thus, those acquiring and developing lands must take all necessary caution to avoid any encumbrances.

Government and communities, therefore, reserve land use for posterity, but encroachers always lurk around to own lands, particularly reserved lands, for selfish interest. That must be avoided.

To achieve that, I propose that all reserved lands must bear what I call “The Government Red Pillars” to ward off encroachers.

The erection of such pillars on reserved lands should be on all site plans.

When that is properly done, acquiring earmarked areas with impunity will not be the norm.

Authorities can consider this proposal and, if feasible, adopt it.

Land use is important. Let us all see to it that its acquisition does not pose challenges.
