The true essence of political leadership
As I watch Trevor Phillips, I'm convinced and elated about an exceptionally professional and knowledgeable journalist displaying his craft by posing critical and relevant questions.
This is the kind of professionalism that is completely missing in Ghana's media landscape. Instead of journalistic professionalism, our media space has been hijacked by crass ignoramuses openly engaged in unalloyed partisan political enterprise.
Again, to empanel people with pure intellect and analytic deposition to properly dissect issues on the table in a decent and decorous manner, unapologetic idiots and partisan political bigots are panelled to create nonsensical cacophony.
In Ghana, journalists don't question political leadership; they rather consider encounters with political leaders as a privilege for access to corridors of power and freebies.
Consistency
The replay footage of his old encounters with the two leading-Labour Party members actually unveils the universality of lack of consistency and honesty of career politicians.
Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting, literally, put their hands in the furnace, never to contest for the leadership of The Labour Party, ever, in their lives here on earth, and ultimately the Prime Ministerial position.
But today, these two key Labour Party politicians have made a skillful acrobatic summersaults on the third words, and laced their boots to kick out Keir Starmer from the Number 10 Downing Street, and takeover from him as Prime Minister of United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, Andy Burnham, who is not even a parliamentarian to qualify for the job of Prime Minister, has become the toast of the Labour Party, particularly, and the British public at large, to be the next Prime Minister.
Andy Burnham
And the reason is simple: Andy Burnham is currently the Mayor of Greater Manchester, under whom the jurisdiction has witnessed an unprecedentedly better public transport system, enhanced public security, excellent healthcare, and improved socioeconomic standing for the people.
Andy Burnham tried coming to parliament sometime this year to pave the way for him to contest Keir Starmer for the Prime Ministerial position, but the latter felt threatened and blocked the former's return.
But because the man remains popular, the Labour Party MP for Makerfield, Josh Simons has actually resigned for Andy Burnham to contest the seat to enter parliament and contest the Prime Ministerial position.
And from all indications, Andy Burnham is on the verge of winning the seat, storming parliament, launching a bid at the Prime Ministerial contest, and coming out emphatically victorious.
The Starmer drama
However, only 2years ago, Keir Starmer led the Labour Party into general elections and chalked emphatic victory with a 170 parliamentary majority. But today, he is the most unpopular because all his campaign promises have turned out to be fairy tales, leaving British people disappointed and disillusioned.
Besides failure to fulfill campaign promises, he has been found to be untrustworthy, indecisive, and weak, which are in complete contrast to the image he painted of himself during the election-winning campaign in 2024.
Essence of leadership
This is how truth, honesty, consistency, decency, selflessness, and genuine love for one's country, vis-a-vis political leadership is about.
Nelson Mandela once said: as a leader, when you concern yourself with the concerns of the ordinary people, you wouldn't need to be concerned about your personal safety because your personal safety will become the concern of the people.
Paul Kagame once said: if at any point in time, the people of Rwanda become convinced that my continuous occupation at the presidency has become a threat to their existence, they have every right to throw me out.
In other words, the safety of the leader doesn't concern the people who are convinced their concerns don't concern the leader.
