Slow counting in Gauteng worries political parties

The slow counting of votes in Gauteng, which holds the country's largest voting base, is causing concern among political parties.

Several provinces have already declared their results.

Gauteng boasts about six million registered voters, with a 12 million population.

The race to control the province is still on.

With close to 90% of the votes counted in the province, the ANC is leading with over 52% of the votes, followed by the DA with almost 32 and the EFF with just over 9% of the votes.

In the City of Johannesburg Metro, the ANC had 45% of the vote some time ago, with the DA on about 39% and the EFF around nine.

The results from the large Metro's in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, are also still to be declared.

The latest IEC figures show that more than 94% of  the votes country-wide have been counted so far.

The ANC has between 62 and 63% of the overall vote, and the DA about 22%.

The SABC predicts that the ANC will win 261 seats in the National Assembly, the DA 90, the EFF 23, the IFP 10 and the NFP 7.

Other parties are expected to take up the remaining 10 seats.
