A visit to the hospital that specialises in child health by the Junior Graphic revealed that the number of children at the Out Patient Department (OPD) had slightly reduced 10 days into the strike.
In an interview with Dr Eric Sifah, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital,he explained that the reduction in the number of patients was due to the strike action by doctors.
He, however, said in case of an emergency, the patient would be stabilised before being referred to the 37 Military Hospital.
He said doctors were attending to children who were on admission and explained that due to the delicate nature of children, they could not withdraw their services completely.
In view of that, he said, the medical assistants were attending to all cases at the OPD.
A Principal Physician Assistant of the hospital, Ms Lydia Koranteng, also explained that the doctors were attending to severe cases such as children who were anaemic or asthmatic.
She said every department of the hospital was working except the Pharmacy Unit but even that, patients bought their prescriptions outside the hospital.
Asked whether they were under so much stress, Ms Koranteng replied in the negative and said they were doing their normal work but the number of patients had slightly reduced.
