Twenty-six year-old Nii Adjei Dromo Mensah, shrugged off competition from seven others in the reality show to once again confirm Radford as an outstanding university in the fashion business.
Commenting on the award and prospects for young designers like Dromo Mensah, the Executive Chairman of the university, Nana Dwomoh Sarpong and Head of the Fashion Department, Mrs Yvonne Ntiamoah, said the fashion industry held a lot of possibilities for young entrants but required official protectionist policies to counter dumping .
The fashion industry, they explained, had employment opportunities at each stage of the production chain from the cotton farmer all the way to the end user.
The executive chairman said the economic benefits from exports, while establishing Ghana as an international brand, were enormous.
Recounting the success story of the Fashion Department, Mrs Ntiamoah said they had so far successfully organised three shows for the fashion graduates and style watchers across the country now eagerly looked forward to an extravaganza from the school each year.
The award winner also said he hoped to establish his own fashion outfit after his course to help deepen the understanding and appreciation of fashion.
“It is integral to our tradition and heritage,” he stated.
Dromo Mensah commended Multi TV for the encouragement it was giving to young designers and urged corporate Ghana and multinationals to join the campaign to take the Ghanaian fashion industry to new heights.
