2024 withheld WASSCE results: WAEC dismisses claims of coercing candidates to write statements
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed claims that candidates of 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE-SC) whose results have been withheld and assisting with investigations are being coerced or intimidated to write their statements.
It said the candidates “are neither coerced nor intimidated into writing these statements as is being alleged by some of the parents.”
“We wish to appeal to parents, guardians and the candidates involved to cooperate with the Council to enable it expedite action on the results,” a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of WAEC, John Kapi, has said.
After its 37th meeting, the Ghana Examinations Committee had approved the withholding of subject results of some candidates for their alleged involvement in examination malpractices.
As part of investigations, the statement said the council had concluded scrutiny of the scripts of the candidates and had invited them, accompanied by their parents or guardians, to meet with some selected staff for an opportunity to be given a fair hearing.
“The candidates are required to respond to the allegations of their involvement in examination malpractice.
“This includes writing of statements in the presence of their guardians. This is the concluding stage of the investigation after which the relevant decisions would be taken,” it said.
