Build cordial relations between management, staff: Nabila advises new Limann University VC

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Dr Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU), John Sulemana Nabila, has advised the first Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university, Professor Elias Sowley, to work to ensure the needed relationship among the management and staff of the institution to promote its rapid development.

His call came at the backdrop of the fact that since the establishment of the institution as Wa Polytechnic in September 1999, no Rector had been able to serve his full term of office due to the disunity that prevail.

Induction ceremony

The Chairman gave the advice during the induction ceremony of Prof. Sowley into office as the first Vice-Chancellor of the university after its conversion in April 2020 in Wa in the Upper West Region last Saturday.

The Registrar of the Pastoral and Social Institute at Wa, Reverend Father Christian Kulbile, performed the religious rites after which Naa Prof. Nabila handed over the symbol of Authority and Sword to the VC.

Mr Nabila, who was also a former President of the National House of Chiefs, said there was the need for good relationship among the rank and file of the staff to enable them to meet their obligation of producing qualified personnel needed to propel the socio-economic development of the country.

He stressed that the DHLTU needed peace and, therefore, urged all stakeholders to always work towards that goal.

Mr Nabila noted that the DHLTU was lucky to be situated in a region that was blessed with both human and natural resources which, if properly harnessed, could promote the rapid transformation of the northern part and the country in general.

Support

Welcoming the new vice-chancellor into their midst, the Chairman of the VCs of Technical Universities, Professor Ben Honyenuga, assured him of the support of the pioneers to surmount the challenges which would confront the new technical university.

The Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, said the government was committed to equip the technical universities with the necessary tools and facilities to provide the middle-level personnel in the areas of science, technology and applied science and arts required to propel the economic growth of the country.

Response

In response, Prof. Sowley expressed his appreciation to the government for the trust reposed in him and promised to translate that trust into working hard to bring about the needed peaceful atmosphere and unity to enhance teaching and learning in the institution.

He pleaded with the government for clearance to recruit more staff since they were severely understaffed at the moment.
